Shang-tu, also known as Xanadu, was established in 1256 in present-day Inner Mongolia. It served as the summer capital for the Mongolian-Chinese emperor Kublai Khan and was nicknamed the “city of 108 temples.” During the Manchu rule in China, it played a crucial role as a religious center for the Mongols. Unfortunately, the city suffered devastation in 1358 and 1363 during the Red Turban rebellion led by Muslims.
The name Xanadu gained cultural significance when Samuel Taylor Coleridge immortalized Shang-tu in poetry. This exotic-sounding name continued to capture imaginations, notably in Orson Welles’ “Citizen Kane.”
As a recent player in the scene, Xanadu Homes draws inspiration from this rich history, establishing itself as a unique entry in the field of accommodations.
